ADD and ADHD
ADD/ADHD affects approximately 3-7% of people in this country and around the world. Common symptoms include:
Inattentive Symptoms
- Often fails to pay close attention to details or makes careless mistakes
- Has difficulty sustaining attention
- Does not seem to listen when spoken to directly
- Does not follow through on tasks
- Is often disorganized
- Frequently loses things
- Is easily distracted
- Underestimates the time it takes to complete a task
Hyperactive/Impulsive Symptoms (youth)
- Fidgets or squirms in seat
- Leaves seat in classroom or other similar situations
- Runs around or climbs excessively
- In adolescents and adults, reports frequent feeling of restlessness
- Often on the go or acts as if “driven by a motor”
- Talks excessively, often loudly
- Blurts out answers
- Has difficulty waiting turns
- Interrupts or intrudes on others
Hyperactive/Impulsive Symptoms (adult)
- Impulsive spending, talking
- Difficulties with anger
- Restless feelings or behavior
- Frequent automobile violations
- Excessive impatience
- Poor boundaries, intrusive behavior
- Difficulty relaxing
